Qualification and certification for mission and safety critical applications are major cornerstones in the successful operational roll-out of Satellite Navigation systems like GPS/EGNOS and Galileo.
Key differentiators of systems like Galileo are e.g. certifiability of the system / signals and service guarantees for the users. These differentiators are important drivers for potential revenues and resulting business cases. The main challenge in the certification of EGNOS and Galileo is that there is no single standard against which it can be certified, as the final application certification needs to be against the standards relevant for the individual application domain. Another challenge in the successful implementation and use of EGNOS and Galileo is the lead time for certification of mission and safety critical applications. A timely success of Galileo will require a reduction in lead times for certification.
In this context CERGAL concentrates on the measures already established and future activities which will demonstrate that all provisions are implemented which assure SATNAV systems certification and operational safety. Special focus of CERGAL 2010 will be directed towards Maritime and Inland Waterways applications and GNSS Testing Infrastructure.
CERGAL has been established as cross-border information exchange and discussion platform for system and application developers, operators, approval authorities and users.
